Verify the document type
Use AI to check whether a file is really a recipe before processing it, and avoid spending credits importing a document that isn't one.
In the Upload new tab of Import recipes, above the upload zone, there's a banner that asks: "Not sure what kind of document this is?". It's there to classify a file before you process it as a recipe.
What is it for?
Importing a recipe consumes around 15 credits. If you accidentally upload an invoice, a delivery note, or a shopping list, you'd spend those credits on a document that AI can't turn into a recipe. The verifier clears up the doubt for just 2 credits: it tells you what the file is before you launch the full import.
How do you use it?
- Click Verify type inside the banner.
- Choose the file (JPG, PNG, WebP, or PDF). The button switches to Analyzing… while AI examines it.
- AI responds with the detected type and a confidence percentage.
What types does it detect?
- Recipe — this is what you expect to import.
- Invoice — a billing document, not a recipe.
- Delivery note — a goods delivery document.
- Ingredient list — a list without the structure of a recipe.
- Other type — doesn't fit any of the categories above.
Next to the type you'll see the confidence percentage (for example, "Recipe (96% confidence)") and, if AI recognizes it, a title or a summary of the document. The detected title appears preceded by the "Detected:" label (with the title in bold right after); the summary, if there is one, shows below without a prefix.
And then?
Below the detected type, the banner shows a guidance line depending on what the document is:
- Recipe — "You can continue below to import it." Continue with the normal upload flow.
- Invoice — "Better to log it as an invoice in Purchases."
- Delivery note — "Better to log it as a receipt in Inventory."
- Ingredient list — "Better to process it as a catalog import."
- Other type — "Not processable automatically — upload manually if you insist."
When it isn't a recipe and there's a suggested destination (invoice, delivery note, or ingredient list), the banner also shows a "Go to the right flow →" button that takes you to the right place for that document type, instead of processing it here as a recipe. For the "Other type" type there's no destination route, so that button doesn't appear.
Either way, you can click Verify another to check a different file.
Verifying the type is optional. If you already know your file is a recipe, upload it directly from the zone below and save yourself the 2 credits of the verifier.
If verification fails
If the check doesn't complete, you'll see "Verification error" with a Retry button. Try again; if it persists, check that the file isn't damaged and that it's in an accepted format.
